FEATS OF THE WEEK: Top-ranked Ramsey, N.J., Don Bosco won its second straight over an out-of-state foe to start the season. The Ironmen held off then-regionally ranked Bradenton, Fla., Manatee, 22-16, in a game played at Manatee. ... Chicago, Mount Carmel’s Frank Lenti took over the Illinois record for all-time coaching victories. Lenti now has 307 wins after his Caravan routed Westchester, St. Joseph, 62-8. ... According to the Des Moines Register, Blake Gimbel of Marshalltown set the Iowa single-game record for passing yards with 567 in his team’s 63-41 defeat of Sioux City, East. Gimbel, a junior, had 42 completions, one away from tying another state record. ... Mount Tabor, N.C., quarterback Mike Eldridge accounted for over 500 yards of total offense in an 87-52 win over Winston-Salem, Carver. The teams’ combined point total of 139 was four shy of a state record, according to the Winston-Salem Journal. ... Harlan, Iowa, was beaten 42-20 by Carroll, ending the Cyclones’ string of 57 wins in district games. ... The longest and second-longest overall winning streaks in the nation survived another week. Regionally ranked Hampton, Va., Phoebus extended its run of perfection to 48 games with a 22-7 win over Kecoughtan. Meanwhile, regionally ranked Chandler, Ariz., Hamilton won its 44th straight with a 28-6 decision over state-ranked Mesa, Desert Ridge.
