x-All losses by forfeit FEATS OF THE WEEK: Three teams from Florida have captured National Prep Football Poll titles since 2006. Preseason No. 1-ranked Bradenton, Manatee –- with 12 starters back from a state championship team -– aims to become the fourth. Senior Cord Sandberg, who enters his third year as starting quarterback, is a Mississippi St. recruit. He totaled 3,000 combined passing and rushing yards and 29 touchdowns while leading the Hurricanes to the Class 7A title. Manatee’s defense is anchored by an outstanding group of linemen, including blue chip tackle Derrick Calloway (uncommitted) and end Blake Keller (UCF), who had 14 sacks last year. The Hurricanes won 13 games in 2011 and had just two early season losses: to eventual Prep Poll champ Ramsey, N.J., Don Bosco and Olney, Md., Good Counsel, which ended the year ranked No. 4. This year’s schedule is without any out-of-state opponents, but features a showdown with No. 15 Miami, Central on Sept. 14. Veteran coach Joe Kinnan, who has been Manatee’s coach in two different stints, is 269-68-0 in 32 total seasons at the school.
Past National Prep Poll champs, with records and coaches: Copyright 2012 World Features Syndicate, Inc...endit About the National Prep Poll: Compiled weekly weekly since 1987 and distributed by World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings. Doug Huff compiled the rankings from 1987 until 1999. Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present. The National Prep Poll is the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and Web sites around the United States by the Associated Press national wire service. Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition. About PrepNation.com: PrepNation.com was originally launched August 1, 2001 by Jamie DeMoney for the purpose of creating a permanent online home for the National Prep Poll football and boys basketball rankings.
