The Facts: The Titans bolstered their offensive line by drafting highly touted offensive tackle Taylor Lewan and signing Michael Oher, adding to a line that already had Andy Levitre and Chance Warmack. The Titans have a respectable wide receiver corps that features veteran receiver Nate Washington, Kendall Wright, who had a breakout 2013, and Justin Hunter. Tight end is a position of scrutiny, as Delanie Walker only had 571 receiving yards, and 9.5 yards per reception, Walker is serviceable, but it gets murky after him.
The Titans upgraded the running back position by cutting Chris Johnson, signing Dexter McCluster, and drafting Bishop Sankey to join a running back stable that already had Shonn Greene and Jackie Battle. The Titans had a good defense last year; however there are questions on whether they can replace Alterraun Verner, who was one of the NFLs' most underrated corners last year.
The Titans made a decision to part with longtime kicker Rob Bironas, which makes their kicking game a subject of questions as they now enter camp with a battle between rookie Travis Coons and virtual rookie Maikon Bonani. So for a team that appears to have so much talent, why do I have them ranked so low? Because Jake Locker has struggled with injuries and consistency during his four year tenure as the Titans.
The Titans brought in Charlie Whitehurst to replace Ryan Fitzpatrick and drafted Zach Mettenberger to develop as a possible replacement for Jake Locker should he fail to live up to his potential as the eighth pick of the 2011 Draft. If Locker can live up to his potential this year, the Titans should easily surpass this ranking and compete for a wildcard spot.
