Huesman Named National & SoCon Offensive Player of the Week

| By:

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior quarterback Jacob Huesman picked up a pair of honors for his play over the weekend. He is The Sports Network's FCS co-Offensive Player of the Week and the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, both groups announced today.

Huesman went 24-36 passing for a career-high 359 yards in Chattanooga's 38-31 win over Mercer on Saturday.  He threw two touchdowns to move past Steve Woods (1978-81) for fourth place on the Mocs all-time list with 41 in his career.

It was his ninth career 200-yard passing game and his first with over 300 yards in the air.  It was also the most for a Moc since B.J. Coleman had 386 against Elon on Oct. 30, 2010.

Huesman added 99 yards and a TD on eight carries.  His 2,281 career rushing yards passed Carey Henley (1958-61) for 8th all-time at UTC.  He also had a career-high 458 yards of total offense, the fifth most in a game in school history and the most for a Moc since 2004.

This is Huesman's second SoCon Offensive Player of the Week Award this season and the fourth of his career.  He also earned four SoCon Freshman of the Week honors in 2012.  His eight combined honors are the most for any active player in the league.

He is also the second Moc to be honored nationally by The Sports Network.  Senior Davis Tull was the National Defensive Player of the Week following the Samford game.  Lucas Webb was also the College Sports Madness National Freshman of the Week after the win over the Bulldogs earlier in the season.

Chattanooga moved up to No. 12 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 14 in the Sports Network Top 25. UTC is tied for the SoCon lead at 4-0 (5-3 overall) with Western Carolina (6-2 overall).

The Mocs visit the Catamounts on Saturday, Nov. 1, for a 2:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) kickoff in Cullowhee, N.C.  It is the first time two 4-0 SoCon teams face off since 2009.  Catch the game on the Mocs Sports Network on 96.1 The Beat.  Links for live stats, live audio and the SoCon Digital Network broadcast are available on the football schedule page on GoMocs.com.

The next home game is Military Appreciation Day against Wofford on Nov. 8.  The regular season home finale kicks off at 1:00 p.m. and tickets are available now on GoMocs.com or by calling the UTC Ticket Office at (423) 266-MOCS (6627).
