Rhodes falls to Centre, 15-7

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes men's lacrosse team fell in Southern Athletic Association action on Friday to Centre College, 15-7.
 
The Lynx fall to 8-6 on the year and 2-3 in the SAA while the Colonels improve to 8-4 in 2015 and 4-1 in the league standings.
 
In a close first half, the Colonels opened scoring at the 12:33 mark. Ryan Fennelly had an answer for the Lynx with five minutes to play in the period, netting the contest at 1-1. The two teams traded goals to close the period, with Justin Powers working in a shot with 38 seconds left in the period for a 2-2 score.
 
In the second frame, Centre opened scoring with a pair of goals. Powers netted his second score with 12:06 to play to make the count 4-3. The Colonels rattled off two more scores, before Tommy Reingruber found the back of the net for the Lynx fourth goal. Centre added a pair of goals, but Fennelly had the last word for the Lynx of the half, as he scored his second goal for the 8-5 count at the break.
 
Rhodes struggled to keep pace in the second half, with two Centre goals to one Lynx goal from Powers in the third period for the 10-6 margin. The Colonels added five more goals in the final period, with Cooper Robinson netting a goal with 3:26 to play. The Lynx offense wasn't enough, as Rhodes fell, 15-7.
 
The Lynx were narrowly outshot by their counterparts by a count of 34-33. Rhodes picked up 15 ground balls compared to 12 from Centre. Rhodes also went 16-26 in the face-offs category, and was a perfect 14-14 in the clears column.
 
Thomas Matthews picked up the start, with 12 saves in nearly 60 minutes of play.
 
Rhodes will be back in action on April 12 when they host their final game of the regular season against conference leading Sewanee.
