MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes men's lacrosse team fell in the regular season finale on Sunday to conference foes Sewanee, 19-5.
The Lynx fall to 8-7 on the year and 2-4 in conference play while the Tigers improve to 9-4 in 2015 and 5-1 in league play.
Rhodes jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, with goals from Andrew Slamunovich and
Mattison Hamilton, but that was short lived, as Sewanee rattled off three quick scores for the 3-2 lead.
Justin Powers found the back of the cage to knot the contest at 3-3 with 3:11 to play in the first period, but the Tigers reclaimed the lead with 1:02 to play when they scored third fourth goal.
The Lynx defense had a hard time keeping pace with the high powered Sewanee offense, as the Tigers scored eight unanswered goals in the second period. Rhodes headed into the half trailing, 12-3.
The Rhodes defense held the Tigers to only four goals in the third period, and a Jason lee goal to begin the fourth quarter made the count 17-4.
Tommy Reingruber added another Lynx score, but three more Sewanee goals made the final count 19-5.
Rhodes just missed in the face off category, winning 12 of 27 attempts. Rhodes scooped up 17 ground balls and was outshot 48-21.
Thomas Matthews was in goal for 5q minutes of play, grabbing 17 saves in the outing.
Rhodes finishes the SAA regular season in fifth place, and will look forward to the Conference Tournament on April 18.
