Garcia Selected for U.S. Team in Sorlien Trophy Competition

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis head coach Carlos Garcia has been selected to participate for Team USA in the Sorlien Trophy competition in Toronto, Canada, this week.  Garcia recently wrapped up his 14th season at UTC.

The Sorlien Trophy is administered by the International Lawn Tennis Club, which includes 34 countries.  The USIC picks the representatives for Team USA.  The USIC and other IC clubs are nonprofit organizations devoted to the promotion of international goodwill and comradeship through competitive tennis.

"I am extremely excited to represent our country in this prestigious event," stated Garcia.  "I am grateful to the USIC for choosing me to be a part of the team and look forward to some excellent competition next week."

This year's event is June 12-14 at the Donalda Club in Toronto.  The Sorlien Trophy is an annual event between the United States and Canada and is in honor of Richard Sorlien.  Sorlien served on the board of the International Lawn Tennis Club of the United States and was a three-time finalist in the Wimbledon Veterans' Doubles in the 45-and over category.

Garica, 50, had been competing internationally throughout his coaching career.  He is currently ranked No. 20 in the U.S. in singles in the 50+ age group.
