Cleveland State Community College's cross country teams traveled to Greeneville, Tn., on Friday to participate in Tusculum College's Zaxby's Open 5K race. It was the first time in the two-year-old program that CSCC had five healthy women to compete and score in a meet.

With the men's and women's teams fighting sickness, two women runners, and three men runners dealt with a sinus infection during the race.
They gutted it out, and competed well against mostly D-2 schools.

Both teams placed 7th out of 10 schools.

The Cougars were once again led by Luis Perez, finishing 12th out of 75 runners, with Madison Guider finishing 11th out of 80 runners.

It was another very hot and humid day on a hilly course, but Cleveland State performed well. "We just need to get healthy for a race, and the results will speak for themselves," said head coach David Kyle. "We will have a very hard week of training, as we do not race again until the 22nd at the Freed Speed Open in Henderson, Tn. The team will be ready for a great race there as we will have some time to practice hard and get well."
