In 2021, ETSU women's golf were on their way to Baton Rouge, LA for NCAA Regional play after taking home the Southern Conference title - only to not play a hole of golf, or a shot at moving on.

Bad weather and conditions caused the tournament to be canceled, sending only the top teams along to the NCAA Championships.

Now in 2024 in the ir grand return, the Bucs are wanting a new chance at redemption as they continue to roll through the season as underdogs - especially for those who were a part of that team who had it taken away.

"When we won again my freshman year, we didn't even get to play the regionals and it was a bit of a controversy," said senior Grace Chin. "So, getting to go to regionals again my senior year will be a great opportunity to show what we have."

It's also a moment that sticks with SoCon Coach of the Year, Stefanie Shelton, who hopes it leaves a taste of motivation even for those that weren't a part of that time.

"Anything that motivates is good. That was a big trip for us and to have that whole canceled regional with all the events and everything, that was very devastating," said coach Shelton. "So having Grace on that team, knowing that, and for the entire team knowing that happened to us, I think they're going to be excited to get on the golf course."

The Bucs will take the course at Auburn on May 6 - hoping to carry their momentum and thrive on their underdog role once again, like they did for the SoCon Tournament.

"We always want to prove people wrong, absolutely," added Sophie Bert. "But we will go into this competition as the underdog an we're going to do the same thing we did at conference and just play our game."
