HOPE HULL — Dez Howard and Drew Owen each accounted for three scores as Hooper defeated Glenwood, 52-34, in a non-region game Thursday night at Davis Henry field.
With starting quarterback Lawson Humphries sidelined, Dylan Denny, the area’s leading receiver, returned from an injury suffered last week to take over behind center.
Hooper jumped out to a 22-0 lead just 12 minutes into the game, and Glenwood was never able to recover.
Both teams relied heavily on the ground game. Howard and Owen combined to rush for 430 yards for Hooper, while junior Undriel Copeland led the way for the Gators with 23 carries for 209 yards — his first 200-yard game — and Denny chipped in a pair of rushing scores.
The loss dropped the Gators to 3-7. Glenwood will conclude its season on the road against Crenshaw Academy next Friday night in another non-region game.
