Portland West girls win two
PORTLAND The Portland West Middle School girls basketball team pulled away in the second half last Monday evening, capturing a 30-22 victory over visiting Ellis.
It was the Lady Panther program’s first win over the Lady Cougars in head coach Casey Yates’ seven-year tenure at the helm of the program.
Portland West limited the visitors to 12 points over the first three quarters.
The two teams combined for just three points in the first quarter, and the Lady Panthers led 10-6 after one period and 22-12 entering the fourth quarter.
Portland West point guard Leah Kendall scored six of her team-high eight points in the second half, and teammate Abbie Tomlinson produced all six of her points after halftime.
The rest of the Lady Panther scoring includes: Makayla Luck 6 points, Rachel Westveer 4, Lillie Whitehead 4 and Taylor Elder 2.
Ellis point guard Kayla Minchey scored a team-high eight points, followed by Dylan Mott (6 points), Grace Gregory (5), Jaclyn Jarrett (2) and Olivia Simpson (1).

The Lady Panthers (6-4 overall, 5-3 in Sumner County Conference round-robin play) led 12-2 after one period of play, 21-7 by halftime and 30-12 entering the fourth quarter.
Kendall scored eight of her team-high 13 points in the first half.
Tomlinson finished with five points, followed by Elder (4), Luck (4), Westveer (4) and Whitehead (2).
Mikhaila Sloss led the Lady Wave (2-8, 2-6) with five points, backed by Kayla Carman (3), Kanae Carman (2), Taylor Crenshaw (2) and Autumn Pincock (2).
Crusaders fall at Harding Academy
NASHVILLE The Hendersonville Christian Academy Middle School boys basketball team suffered a 38-24 loss at Harding Academy on Thursday evening.
HCA (5-4 overall, 1-2 in the Middle Tennessee Athletic Conference) was held scoreless in the opening quarter and trailed 20-3 at halftime.
Owen Bass led the Crusaders with 11 points, followed by Thomas Raymer (7 points) and Carson Cook (6).
Greydon Franck paced the Generals with 18 points.
The Crusaders host Merrol Hyde Magnet on Monday.
