HENDERSONVILLE The Station Camp Middle School boys basketball team scored 14 of the final 16 points, rallying for a 50-45 victory over West Wilson in Thursday evening’s Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association (TMSAA) Area 3 Tournament consolation game at Knox Doss Middle at Drakes Creek.

Station Camp Middle School guard Jermaine Holt elevates for a second-quarter shot in the lane as West Wilson’s Mykel Clemmons (23) looks on. Holt scored eight points in the Bison’s 50-45 victory on Thursday evening.

The Bison (13-5) forced four turnovers over the final five minutes, overcoming a seven-point deficit that was created by Kobe Tibbs’ 3-pointer with 4:28 remaining

“They dug in and stopped reaching and fouling,” Station Camp head coach Jeremy Bartlett said. “They made them make passes.

“We have some athletic ability. We can defend when we make them make passes.”

Bison center Jesus Amaya came off the bench to score all eight of his points over the final 3:35, twice receiving interior passes from teammate Alex Vaughn and converting on layins.

Vaughn’s layin with 54 seconds remaining placed his squad in front to stay, and Amaya returned the favor 30 seconds later, throwing a high-low pass down to Vaughn for a layin that created a three-point cushion.

Amaya’s layin in the final seconds sealed the win.

Station Camp Middle School guard Trey Moore elevates for a first-quarter shot in front of West Wilson’s Gavin Kerr and Bryson Goode (35). Moore scored two points.

“Having a big body (like Amaya) helps,” Bartlett said. “Everything before the fourth quarter had a dribble or two before the pass. That gives the defense time to recover. In the fourth quarter, every pass was followed by another pass. It was ball movement. That’s the way to beat a zone (defense).”

There were eight ties and 11 lead changes over the first three quarters. The biggest lead that either team enjoyed over that span was a five-point advantage that Station Camp held after Jermaine Holt’s basket to open the second half.

Station Camp Middle School guard Kyle Winter made three 3-pointers in the Bison’s 50-45 win over West Wilson on Thursday evening.

“We mixed it up a lot, just trying to get more effort,” Bartlett said. “We tried to up the tempo, but give them credit. They had two guards who handled the pressure, and (Joseph Meadows) stepped up and made some huge shots. They played well and caused a lot of mistakes that we made.”

Station Camp Middle School guard Mark Deason passes to a teammate during second-quarter action.

Meadows and Tibbs scored 13 points each.

Vaughn scored 14 points to lead the Bison, and teammate Kyle Winter made three 3-pointers to account for his nine points.

Both teams will have to travel for their sub-sectional contests on Monday, with the winners advancing to the Middle Tennessee Sectional Tournament at Murfreesboro’s Central Magnet School.
