The South Middle School Lady Trojans beat the East Lady Panthers 35-24 at Shelbyville Central High School Wednesday in a quarterfinal game for their conference tournament.
The Lady Trojans built up an early advantage and pulled away in the fourth quarter to move on to the conference semifinals.
Both offenses got off to a slow start in the contest with the Lady Trojans taking an early lead.
They led 5-3 after one quarter.
The Lady Trojans added a few more points to their advantage in the second quarter with the assistance of 3-pointers from Shayla Kennerly and Na’Kayjah Holman early in the period.
They led 13-6 at halftime.
The Lady Panthers made it a one-point game midway through the third quarter, but the Lady Trojans were able to pull back ahead by a decent amount.
They led 23-17 going into the final period.
The Lady Trojans never let the lead shrink below four points in the fourth quarter as they pulled away in the final minutes to win by 11.
Kennerly led the Lady Trojans with 18 points for the game, followed by Holman with eight points and Ava Yates with five.
Sabree May and Auna Foster scored two points each.
With the win, the Lady Trojans improved to 5-4 on the season.
They will next play Thursday against Coffee County Middle School at Harris Middle School in a semifinal game for the Central Tennessee Conference tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
