Retirement
Retirement Looms on the Horizon is HERE!!
June 8, 2015 UPDATE: Retirement is still great and there are now three (and soon to be four!) grandchildren. My daughter in Germany is expecting again and has a 3-year-old son and a 5 year-old daughter. My son here now has a one-year-old daughter. Life is good!
September 19, 2010 UPDATE: So far it seems like a long summer. Real nice. REAL nice.
May 29, 2010- Time has flown by since I originally posted this. And, yes, we are retired!
February, 2010: 35 years of teaching is enough...but I will miss it.
Unless something drastic happens in the next few months, my wife and I will be retiring from teaching at the end of this school year. At age 57 with 35 years of teaching behind me, 32 of those at Lawrence County High, it is time to see what else there is out there. One thing we do know for sure is that there is a granddaughter in Germany that we sure plan to visit every now and then. The other is that CoachT.com will occupy even more of my time than in the past.
As a Contemporary Issues teacher I already catch myself thinking that "next semester I need to emphasize this" or "I need to make a copy of this to use next year". I'm sure that next year I will be seeing events unfold around the world and wanting to explain to my then non-existent students what the history of that event is and why it is happening now.
The first week in March we will be turning in our retirement papers. I find myself wanting my current classes to understand everything I say even moreso than any classes I have ever had. After all, this is the last time I ever get to say it.
