Lynx softball strikes out batters for the American Heart Association

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – "So you think you can hit...like a girl?" asked Rhodes College Softball this past Saturday at their season fundraising event for the American Heart Association. The task: to hit a home run off Lynx pitchers Chloe Hundman and Forrest Skelton. The prize: a free dinner and a year's worth of bragging rights.

Twenty seven members of the Rhodes College community took the field on Saturday to try their luck and donate to an amazing cause; The American Heart Association. Strike out after strike out, each batter who approached the plate boastful and overconfident left defeated and humbled with a new found respect for Lynx Softball players. Mid way through the event, participants began to take pride in merely being able to make contact with the ball as Hundman and Skelton's pitches went whizzing by; hitting a foul ball was considered triumphant.

So to answer the question, "You think you can hit like a girl??" For all but one, that answer was, "no".

The one to finally connect with a pitch, Ben Primes, a junior offensive lineman and a member of the Lynx's softball stat crew, Primes was the only successful participant on the day lifting a low changeup over the left center field fence.

While the event provided entertainment and excitement for the attending crowd, its true impact was its support of the American Heart Association. Lynx Softball dedicates an event each season to raising funds for organizations bent on making a difference. Head coach Luke Wagner believes in the importance of giving back and seeks to instill a sense of charity and community in his players. The goal is not only to advance incredible athletes but to create conscious society members as well. The Lynx well surpassed their goal of $500 by raising over $700 for the American Heart Association.

The women of the Rhodes College softball team would like to thank those who participated and congratulate Ben Primes on his success at the plate.

The Lynx hope to hit a few out of the park themselves in their season opener Feb. 7 in California against the Poets of Whittier College.
