Boyd-Buchanan, remembering a tough loss to Arts & Sciences in 2013, pounded the Patriots, 14-0, on Tuesday to capture the District 5-A baseball regular-season championship. It was the Bucs’ 15th win in their last 16 games.

Five Bucs – Jim Cardwell, Colby Morgan, Nathan Murrell, E.J. Matthews and Seth Rogers – each had two hits in the one-sided victory that avenged the 2013 loss that ended Boyd-Buchanan’s season.

Murrell drove in four runs, giving him an area-leading 35 for the season. Rogers, who has been hitting a red-hot .600 over the past two weeks, had three RBIs. Defensively, Rogers, who plays left field, threw out a runner trying to go from first to third on a single for his third assist from the outfield in 2014.

Obviously, the Bucs’ pitching staff has been superb during the team’s current seven-game winning streak with a 2.65 ERA.

Bucs starter Skyler Anderson allowed two hits over the first four innings and struck out six before giving way to John Sewell, who fanned three in the seventh to seal Boyd-Buchanan’s second shutout.

The Bucs host the Patriots on Thursday at 5:15 p.m.
