H.S. BASKETBALL: Lexington’s Marshall commits to Memphis

West Tennessee has a large senior class rising up in high school basketball that are being recruited by NCAA Division I schools.

The second boys’ player in that highly recruited bunch made his decision on Tuesday to his choice of college.

Lexington’s Nick Marshall, a 6-foot-11, 220-pound post, chose to play college basketball at the University of Memphis.

Marshall chose the Tigers over UConn, Indiana, South Carolina, Mississippi State and Tennessee. He plays for Team Thad (out of Memphis) on the AAU circuit.

Marshall, considered the No. 16 center in country by ESPN.com, is known more for his defense and shot-blocking ability.

Following his senior season at Lexington, Marshall is expected to spend a year at a prep school before enrolling at Memphis in 2016.

Last season, Marshall helped lead Lexington to a berth in the Class AA sectionals as he averaged 12 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.

The Tigers are expected to be one of the top Class AA teams in the area this season and one of the favorites to win District 14-AA and Region 7-AA titles.

The first of the boys’ basketball players to commit was South Side guard Chris McNeal to Western Kentucky.
