ODOM'S BLOG: Girls' Soccer Elite 8 after Week 2

We are two weeks into the season, and the top teams are beginning to rise to the top. Many of the better teams are still undefeated, while others have fallen with no wins.

There are still six weeks remaining in the regular season, so much can still happen. But here is the Elite 8 after Week 2:

1. USJ (Division II) (3-0)

– The Lady Bruins outscored two opponents by an 18-0 scoreline in easy wins. Results: Beat Fayette Academy 10-0; Beat Northpointe 8-0. Last week: No. 1.

2. Jackson Christian (15 A-AA) (3-0-1)

– The Lady Eagles picked up a big 1-0 win over a Class AAA powerhouse out of Memphis. Results: Beat Collierville 1-0; Beat Westview 7-1. Last week: No. 2.

3. Chester County (14 A-AA) (3-0)

– The Eaglettes beat two opponents that they could see in the region tournaments and only gave up one goal in the two matches. Results: Beat Westview 3-1; Beat South Gibson 3-0. Last week: No. 3.

4. Sacred Heart (Division II) (4-0)

– The Lady Knights continue to impress in the early season with three more wins and are now 4-0 on the season. Results: Beat South Side 8-1; Beat North Side 6-1; Beat Northpointe 2-0. Last week: No. 4.

5. Lexington (14 A-AA) (3-0)

– The Lady Tigers picked up a non-district win and opened their 14 A-AA South Division schedule with an easy win. Results: Beat Madison 2-1; Beat Fayette-Ware 12-0. Last week: No. 5.

6. McNairy Central (14 A-AA) (3-1)

– The Lady Bobcats responded from an opening loss with three straight wins to prove they are still tough. Results: Beat North Side 4-1; Beat South Side 6-1, Last week: Not ranked.

7. Westview (13 A-AA) (1-2)

– The Lady Chargers played two of the top teams in West Tennessee and took two losses, but those games will make the team better. Results: Lost to Chester County 3-1; Lost to Jackson Christian 7-1. Last week: No. 7.

8. South Gibson (13 A-A) (2-1)

– The Lady Hornets took a loss in its only match, but they hung tough against one of the better teams in the area. Results: Lost to Chester County 3-0. Last week: Not ranked.

Dropped out: Madison (0-2); Liberty (0-2)
