Brentwood beats Dickson Co. for first win

DICKSON

– Brentwood needed five weeks for its first win of the season, defeating Dickson County 45-25 on Friday night.

John Robertson led Brentwood (1-4) with 183 yards rushing and two touchdowns, while Jordan Von Tagen and Carson Croy also had scoring runs for the Bruins.

“I thought we played well in all three phases,” Brentwood coach Mike Woodard said. “We had some things we emphasized during the week. One of them was the run game, and John was running like a man possessed, but our offensive line was doing a great job of blocking for him also … Jordan Von Tagen ran well for us when we got inside the red zone; real proud of the guys.”

Dickson County (1-4) made its share of plays early as Collier Wolcott put the brakes on Brentwood’s opening drive with a tackle for a loss.

Quarterback Jacob Murphree later connected with Cayce Daniel for a 23-yard touchdown to put the Cougars up 7-3. Jacob Williams added a 28-yard field goal early in the second quarter to stretch the lead to 10-3.

Brentwood managed to regain the momentum with two touchdowns before halftime as Von Tagen scored on a 2-yard run and Roberson on a 24-yard run.

The Bruins took control in the third quarter as Robertson started things off with a 15-yard touchdown. Asher Melton then scored on a 54-yard interception return, and Croy scored on a 21-yard quarterback keeper to put Brentwood up 38-10 going into the fourth quarter.

Dickson County hung tough late as Murphree had scoring passes to Enoch William and Kincaid Lewis to pull within 38-25.

“We got off to a good start. We just needed to keep punching on that start,” Dickson Co. coach Troy Williams said.

“I was very proud with how we came out and we took charge. We just got to keep that tempo up for a full four quarters.”
