H.S. FOOTBALL: Jackson Christian earns first win

The Jackson Sun

MIDDLETON – Jackson Christian got its first win of the year over another program who has struggled to get into the win column this season.

The Eagles beat Middleton on the road 42-0.

“Our kids played a good game tonight,” said first-year Jackson Christian coach Todd Roland. “We’ve been improving each week as the season has gone along, which was our main goal to begin with.

“But when you lose some of the games like we’ve lost before this week, it’s kind of hard to see that from outside the program.”

The Eagles had a 28-0 lead at halftime on a few offensive snaps as the backs did a good job of getting into open space and getting into the end zone.

Then defense did its job when Middleton was moving the ball, and the Eagles responded by stripping the ball and taking the fumble all the way back for a touchdown.

“Will Buehler has really improved as a quarterback,” Roland said. “He’s calmed down since that first game and has really begun to make better decisions and throw better passes.”

The Eagles have next week off as they prepare to host District 15-A and Jackson city rival Trinity Christian Academy.

“Obviously TCA is a really good team that will be hard to stop,” Roland said. “But we’ve got two weeks to get ready for them, and we’ll see what we can do.”

Other teams get first wins

Gibson County went to Halls and won 42-26 for its first victory and is now 1-2 in District 14-A play.

McNairy Central defended its home field without its head coach and came back to blast Fayette-Ware 38-14.

After four close calls to enter the week 0-4, South Gibson broke into the win column in emphatic fashion by beating Obion County on the road, 34-3.
