Kevin Odom

After giving up 240 yards and 21 points in the first half, Trinity Christian Academy made some defensive adjustments and played with more purpose in the second half to beat Scotts Hill 49-28 and remain undefeated in District 15-A.

In the first half Scotts Hill’s offensive did its best to keep up with Trinity’s high-powered offense as quarterback Junior Kimmel scored on a 1- yard run and threw a touchdown pass to Chase Stout. Kobe Rogers added a touchdown just before half to pull Scotts Hill within seven points, 28-21 TCA.

Trinity’s scored on a 58-yard touchdown catch and run by Andrew Goldsmith, a 90-yard kickoff return by Eli Parker, a 21 pass reception by Parker and a 37-yard pass reception by Grant Reviere in the first half.

“I would be lying if I said I was not disappointed in the play of our defense in the first half,” said TCA coach Blake Butler. “We made some adjustments at half and did some blitzing in the third and fourth quarter, but for the most part it was just players doing their job.”

Trinity held Scotts Hill to just 100 yards of offense and seven points in the second half, keeping Scotts Hill quarterback Kimmel and running back Rogers in check. In the first half the two accounted for 170 of Scotts Hill’s 184 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

On the offensive side of the ball it took only two plays on their first possession of the second half for TCA to score .Quarterback Kyle Akin hit wide out Reviere for a 20-yard pass and then a 34-yard touchdown pass to go up 35-21 just 47 seconds into the third quarter.

After Trinity’s defense turned the ball back over to the offense on downs, Akin hit Reviere down the middle for a 55-yard catch and run to the end zone for a 42-21 lead.

Reviere, who caught five passes for 174 yards and four touchdowns, had a 29-yard touchdown catch in the closing seconds of the third quarter to give TCA a commanding 49-21 lead.

“It is a blessing to have Kyle. You could not ask for a better quarterback throwing to you on Friday night,” Reviere said.

Scotts Hill’s final score came on a one-yard run by Rogers in the fourth quarter. Trinity hosts JCM next week and Scotts Hill is off.

“We have to have a renewed since of urgency in practice next week in preparation for JCM,” Butler said.
