GALLATIN – Station Camp senior quarterback Kyle Anderton is known for his strong arm.

However, on Friday night against winless Lebanon, it was Anderton’s legs that carried the Bison to a 62-21 victory over the visiting Blue Devils.

Anderton rushed for 90 yards and four touchdowns on 12 carries. He also threw for another score and 145 yards.

“The offensive line did really well,” said Anderton. “It’s not hard to run through the holes they make, because they made them big tonight.

Station Camp head coach Shaun Hollinsworth added. “He’s been the true epitome of the heartbeat of this football team this year. You won’t get a kid like him very often.”

Anderton rushed to paydirt on the first three Bison possessions of the game on runs of 6, 13 and 14 yards, leading Station Camp to a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

His second score was set up by the first of two interceptions by Perry Foxx that gave the Station Camp the ball on the Lebanon 10 yard line. After a holding penalty, Anderton bulled his way to the end zone on a third-and-goal play from the Lebanon 13.

Anderton started off the third quarter by capping off a 54-yard drive with a 10-yard rushing touchdown, his fourth of the night.

His touchdown pass came in the second quarter on a beautiful 35-yard strike to senior wideout Jayce Alford, hitting him in stride as he raced down the sideline and into the end zone to give Station Camp a 35-14 at halftime.

On the night, Station Camp also got rushing touchdowns from senior tailback Josh Gilley on a 5-yard run and sophomore Shaun McKinley on a 15-yard run. Foxx added a 71-yard interception return for another touchdown, and senior placekicker Bryson Shaw added field goals of 26 and 34 yards.

Anderton was Station Camp’s leading rusher with 90 yards on 12 carries, followed by senior Tre’ Malone with eight carries for 55 yards and Gilley with 12 rushes for 51 yards.

As a passer, Anderton finished the game with nine completions on 13 attempts for 145 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. His leading receiver was sophomore Marcus DeVault, who had three catches for 59 yards.

On track

Although Station Camp exploded on Friday, it’s taken a few weeks for the Bison offense to jell, Hollinsworth said.

“Things we did last year, we weren’t able to do early in the season,” Hollinsworth said. “Progressively, we’re doing better. By simplifying what we do, we’re able to do things better.”

Hollinsworth and his staff have had to replace four starters on the offensive line this year, but they’re starting to show improvement he said.

“We’re finding out what they can do well,” Hollinsworth said. “They’re gaining more confidence.”

Station Camp was able to move the ball the way they wanted to coming into the game, Anderton said.

“They really couldn’t stop us, but we still could do better,” Anderton said.

After Station Camp raced out to a 21-0 lead, Lebanon answered with a 15-yard scoring pass from Jackson Gray to Jarren Stewart to cut the lead to 21-7.

Gilley’s scoring run pushed the lead back to 28-7 for Station Camp, and Lebanon answered with a 53-yard run by senior tailback Taye Davis, the Blue Devils’ 6-3, 235-pound tailback. Davis finished the game with 153 yards on 14 carries.

Anderton’s strike to Alford with 3:04 left in the first half pushed the Station Camp lead back to 21 points.

Station Camp (2-2 overall, 1-2 in District 9-AAA) scored 17 unanswered points in the third quarter on Anderton’s final rushing TD, a 26-yard field goal from Shaw and Foxx’s 71-yard pick-six.

Another field goal by Shaw pushed the lead to 55-14. Consecutive runs by Davis of 25 and 29 yards set up Lebanon’s last score, a 19-yard touchdown pass from Gray to Truck Weir.

McKinley’s 15-yard touchdown run with 1:42 left for Station Camp finished the scoring.

The Bison will travel to Nashville on Friday to face Pearl-Cohn, which has an offense that’s averaging more than 50 points a contest.

“That will be a big test for us,” Hollinsworth said.

Anderton added, “We’ve got a tough road game next week, so we’ll find out what we’re all about.”
