Blackman survives, stays at No. 1 in top 10

1. Blackman (6-0)

The Blaze had as big a scare as any top-tier program has had recently, but that also set up one of the all-time greatest comebacks. Blackman scored 29 unanswered points in 11 minutes to top Independence 43-42. Last week: Defeated Independence 43-42. Next: Friday at La Vergne.

2. Oakland (5-1)

The Patriots continued to play top-notch defense in a 49-7 win over Brentwood High. Oakland’s lone blemish is a 28-21 loss on ESPN2 to rival Blackman. Last week: Defeated Brentwood 49-7. Next: Bye

3. MBA (5-1)

MBA’s offense is one of the best in the Midstate, as quarterback Cole Euverard tossed three TDs and ran for another in Friday’s 42-20 win over Millington Central. Ty Chandler had 149 yards rushing for the Big Red. Last week: Defeated Millington 42-20. Next: Thursday vs. Ensworth

4. Ensworth (4-1)

The four-time defending DII-AA state champs ran into a big road block en route to another title as McCallie dismantled Tigers 62-34 Friday. Ensworth did accumulate more than 400 yards of offense in the loss, however. Last week: Lost 62-34 at McCallie. Next: Thursday at MBA.

5. Hillsboro (6-0)

The Burros continued to play well on both sides of the bal Friday. QB Micheal Hughes threw for 248 yards and three scores and rushed for another touchdown. Last week: Defeated Cane Ridge 35-12. Next: Friday at Antioch.

6. Brentwood Acad. (5-1)

Brentwood Academy had a huge battle in getting a comeback win against unbeaten Science Hill. Jeremiah Oatsvall continued his hot play behind center, throwing for three TDs and rushing for another. Last week: Defeated Science Hill 45-42. Next: Friday vs. Pope John Paul II.

7. CPA (5-0)

It was business as usual for CPA Thursday night as the Lions traveled to Milan and rolled to a 42-7 win. Chip Omer led a potent Lions’ rushing attack with 99 yards and a TD while QB Zack Weatherly added 78 yards and a score on the ground. Last week: Defeated Milan 42-7. Next: Friday at Spring Hill.

8. Pearl-Cohn (5-1)

The Midstate’s most potent offensive attack continued to produce Friday, scoring 58 points. KeShawn Vaughn had 197 yards rushing and three TDs in the win. Last week: Defeated Station Camp 58-17. Next: Friday vs. Whites Creek.

9. Ravenwood (5-0)

The Raptors set up a huge matchup this week against rival Centennial with last week’s rout. QB Cole Brown and his favorite target – Georgia committment Van Jefferson – hooked up six times for 128 yards and a TD. Last week: Defeated Overton 44-13. Next: Friday vs. Centennial.

10. Centennial (6-0)

Centennial has scored 134 points in its last three games and its defense had six sacks and three intereceptions Friday. Last week: Defeated Mt. Juliet 39-10. Next: Friday at Ravenwood.
