H.S. FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Milan upsets Dyersburg

The Jackson Sun

MILAN – The football team at Milan High has had its share of highs and lows the past couple of years.

The Bulldogs enjoyed a high on Friday when they upset Dyersburg 28-21 in Milan.

After Dyersburg went up 7-0 in the first quarter, Landon Walker hit Brian Thomas for a 47-yard pass to tie, and Hayden Bolton’s six-yard pass from Walker in the second quarter gave the Bulldogs the lead.

Dyersburg tied it with a long run in the third quarter, but Milan took over on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter when Isiah Ross ran 25 yards for a score and Thomas returned an interception 53 yards for a two-touchdown lead.

Dyersburg scored again with 10 seconds left, but it wasn’t enough.

Ross finished the game with 128 rushing yards.

Westview 60, Obion Co. 22: The Chargers stayed in the hunt for the District 13-AA championship with the dominant win.

Westview broke the game open in the second quarter when it outscored the Rebels 25-7 then added 13 more points to the lead in the third.

Westview quarterback Dallas Callins five touchdown passes and a touchdown run to lead the Chargers to the victory.

Hardin Co. 42, Dyer Co. 17: The Choctaws, who have struggled most of this season, kept things close into the third quarter before the Tigers took over in the second half.

Quarterback Cal Gobbell continued his stellar offensive play as he accounted for six Tiger touchdowns. He ran for four scores and completed passes to receiver Nick Godwin for two more.

He finished the night with 156 rushing yards on 17 carries, while Godwin finished with 78 yards on five receptions.

Peabody 56, Halls 7: The Golden Tide made sure this one wasn’t even close as they scored 42 points in the first quarter and added seven more in the second.

Brandon Johnson ran for three scores in the opening period, while Reco Buchanan and Daniel Hodges helped out on defense and special teams. Buchanan returned an interception for a score, while Hodges returned a blocked kick for another score.

The win sets up a District 14-A championship game between the Golden Tide and Union City next week in Union City, as both teams enter the game with perfect district records and everyone else is at least two games back.
