Johnny Jones is this week’s top player

Brandon Shields

Because we typically like to spread honor around to different players, we don’t normally give a player multiple player of the week honors until after the regular season is over.

But Crockett County running back Johnny Jones is a special player who turned in a special performance on a special night.

The special performance he turned in was 377 yards on 37 carries for four touchdowns. That brings his total yardage for the season to 1,780 with 31 rushing touchdowns.

Opposing defenses have been trying to stop him all season, but nothing has worked so far.

The special night was his productive night helped Crockett County head coach Kevin Ward get his 100th career victory as a head coach. Ward joins Peabody’s Ricky Woods (239), USJ’s Mickey Marley (235), Milan’s Jeff Morris (193), Westview’s Don Coady (192) and McKenzie’s Wade Comer (130) as local coaches who’ve reached the triple-digit win pleateau.
