SUNDAY MORNING QUARTERBACK

JTN

District 15-AA

Liberty (6-2, 4-0) 42,North Side (7-1, 3-1) 19

Key to the game: Liberty’s defense kept North Side’s offense in check, while the Crusaders’ offense scored early and often in the first half.

The fallout: Liberty has its first district championship since 2009, while the Indians are forced into a tie for second place that will be decided in Week 10.

Haywood (4-5, 2-2) 41, JCM (2-6, 1-3)

Key to the game: Haywood broke open a close game in the final minutes with its passing game.

The fallout: The Tomcats stay in contention for the Class 4A playoffs. The Cougars still have a shot at making the 3A playoffs, but they have to win their last two games to have a shot.

District 14-AA

Chester Co. (7-1, 4-0) 13,Lexington (4-4, 3-1) 3

Key to the game: In a game where there wasn’t a lot of offense, Chester County made the plays it needed to.

The fallout: The Eagles control their own destiny. With a win in Week 10, they’re district champions. A loss probably creates a three-way tie for first.

McNairy (3-5, 3-1) 20,South Side (1-7, 1-3) 6

Key to the game: McNairy’s defense came through for some big stops late to seal the win.

The fallout: McNairy is still in the hunt for a top-two finish in the district if it were to beat Chester County in Week 10.

Bolivar (2-6, 1-3) 53,Fayette-Ware (1-7, 0-4) 35

Key to the game: Bolivar’s offense played up to its potential on Friday.

The fallout: The Tigers have won two in a row, and they technically aren’t out of playoff contention mathematically. But they need to win their last two to even hope to make the playoffs.

District 15-A

Adamsville (7-1, 3-1) 42,Scotts Hill (4-4, 1-3) 14

Key to the game: The Cardinals pulled away in the second half to the big win.

The fallout: The Cardinals remain in the hunt for the top two in the district. Scotts Hill has two winnable games remaining in which the Lions should clinch a wild card playoff berth.

Riverside (5-3, 3-1) 14,Jackson Christian (1-7, 1-3) 7

Key to the game: Shemar Porter’s two-yard touchdown run with five minutes left was the difference between winning and losing for the Panthers.

The fallout: Riverside still has a say in the race for top two in the district, while Jackson Christian’s defense should feel good about holding an athletic offense to 14 points.

TCA (7-1, 4-0) 55, Middleton (0-8, 0-4) 14

Key to the game: TCA scored in all three phases of the game in the first half.

The fallout: Both teams continue on the path they’ve been traveling all season.

District 13-AA

Milan (5-3, 2-2) 28,Dyersburg (6-2, 2-2) 21

Key to the game: Milan scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to break a tie and pull away from the Trojans.

The fallout: The Bulldogs picked up a huge win to help their playoff resume for a wild card berth, while Dyersburg falls back to fourth in the district with a chance of finishing second depending on what happens in Week 10.

Crockett Co. (8-0, 4-0) 50,South Gibson (2-6, 1-3) 14

Key to the game: The Hornets kept it close for a while, before the Cavaliers took over in the third quarter and began to pull away.

The fallout: The Cavaliers are in the top two in the district. Their final position will depend on Week 10. South Gibson’s playoff hopes are dimming with each loss. The Hornets need to win their final two games for a shot at the postseason.

Westview (7-1, 3-1) 60,Obion Co. (2-7, 0-4) 22

Key to the game: The Chargers dominated in the second and third quarters to pull away.

The fallout: The Chargers are now in a situation where they could win the district championship in Week 10 or fall to third place.

District 14-A

Union City (8-0, 5-0) 49.Humboldt (4-4, 3-2) 0

Key to the game: No one has stopped Union City so far, and Humboldt didn’t do it either.

The fallout: Union City plays for the district championship next week, while Humboldt needs to bolster its playoff resume for a wild card spot, although the Vikings still have an outside shot at a runner-up finish.

Peabody (7-1, 5-0) 56,Halls (2-6, 0-5) 7

Key to the game: The Golden Tide scored 42 points to drown any hopes Halls had of winning early on.

The fallout: Peabody is playing for the district title next week.

South Fulton (4-4, 2-3) 40,Gibson Co. (2-6, 1-4) 15

Key to the game: South Fulton took over late and ran away to the win.

The fallout: This game was an important one for the Pioneers if they hope to qualify for the playoffs. They could still do it, but a win in this game would’ve helped.

District 13-A

McKenzie (6-2, 4-0) 34,Huntingdon (5-3, 3-1) 13

Key to the game: The Rebels’ offense struck for a few big plays early on to jump out to a big lead.

The fallout: McKenzie is the district champion since it owns tie-breakers over both of the other teams who could compete for the championship. Huntingdon is in a tie for second and will play for the runner-up spot in two weeks.

Bruceton (5-3, 1-3) 19,West Carroll (3-6, 1-3) 12

Key to the game: It took a while for either team to score, but the Tigers simply scored more points to get the win.

The fallout: The Tigers are still in line for the playoffs even if they just got their first district win this week. For West Carroll, they’ve got the district champion remaining in Week 10 and need to get a win there to get into the playoffs.

Dresden (5-4, 3-1) 54,Gleason (2-6, 0-4) 6

Key to the game: The Bulldogs’ defense couldn’t stop the Lions.

The fallout: Gleason needs to win its last two games to hope for the playoffs, and Dresden is in contention for district runner-up. That will be decided in Week 10.

District 13-AAA

Hardin Co. (5-3, 2-0) 42,Dyer Co. (2-6, 0-2) 17

Key to the game: The Choctaws stayed with the Tigers for a while, but the Cal Gobbell/Nick Godwin show took over as Hardin County pulled away.

The fallout: Hardin County is 2-0 in the district and assured a top-two finish in 13-AAA, which means the Tigers are assured of a Class 5A playoff spot.

District 11-AA

Waverly (7-1, 5-1) 34,Camden (6-2, 5-1) 31

Key to the game: Camden made a few costly mistakes at the wrong times, and Waverly capitalized.

The fallout: The two are tied for first in the district with Waverly owning the tie-breaker. If Camden wins out in the final two weeks, the Lions should have a high seeding in the playoffs.
