Cloudland, Hampton climb in AP poll

With convincing wins on Friday night, Cloudland and Hampton each gained a spot in this week’s AP Prep Football Poll. The Cyclones continued to remain one spot outside the top 10.

The ‘Landers jumped up to No. 7 in Class A after dispatching South Greene 40-6 at Orr Field. Cloudland, who climbed as high as No. 2 in the poll before falling at North Greene, had 66 points, and was just one point off of sixth place Greenback. Union City continued to claim the top spot with all 15 first-place votes, while Nashville Christian School had 133 points to be No. 2 in the poll. Columbia Academy, Wayne County and Huntland round out the top five.

In Class AA, the Bulldogs climbed to No. 8 with a strong win over Hancock County. Hampton, who continued to hold a first-place vote, recorded 47 points with a 7-1 record. Trinity Christian Academy recorded all but two of the first-place votes, with No. 7 Middle Tennessee Christian garnering the other vote, to place No. 1 in the poll, while Adamsville ended the poll with 130 points to place No. 2. Peabody, Marion County and Onieda round out the top five.

In Class 4A, Elizabethton received 22 points in the poll, but remained just outside the top 10. Three Rivers Conference foe Sullivan South climbed to No. 8 in the poll.

All three teams return to action on Friday night as Cloudland travels to Hancock County, Elizabethton travels to Unicoi County and Hampton will host South Greene.
