Roundup: Forrest rolls past Middle Tennessee Christian

Middle Tennessee Christian’s offense ran into a team which stopped it.

The Cougars fell to Forrest 49-14 in a battle of two of the top teams in District 9-A Friday night.

It was the first loss of the season for the Cougars and the fewest points they have scored all year.

Both MTCS and Forrest have one district loss. Huntland is undefeated in the district and plays MTCS Friday.

“Kudos to their coaches, they had a good scheme and they had us scouted really well,” said MTCS coach Fred Shambaugh. “They were ready for us.”

Zach McClendon led the Rockets’ offense with 283 yards rushing and three touchdowns. He also threw for a touchdown on a halfback pass.

Overall, Forrest accumulated 466 rushing yards and 114 passing yards.

The Rockets scored on their first drive and made it look easy. They went 60 yards on five plays. McClendon had four of the runs, 16 yards, 21 yards, five yards and an 8-yard touchdown run.

After the Cougars went three-and-out, the Rockets’ offense went back into action and took it 60 yards in five more plays.

Cane Ridge 56, Hillwood 7: Tyler Caruthers threw for 120 yards and three touchdowns and Lokuawn Wigfall added 118 rushing yards and two touchdowns as Cane Ridge beat Hillwood.

Friendship Christian 49, Fayetteville 14: Austin Taylor rushed for 218 yards and four touchdowns as Friendship Christian had no problems with Fayetteville. The Commanders scored 42 of their 49 points in the first half.

Pearl-Cohn Business Magnet 39, Franklin Road 29: Ke’shawn Vaughn rushed for 303 yards and four touchdowns to lead Pearl-Cohn over Franklin Road Academy 39-29 Friday night. Rontavious Groves added two receiving touchdowns.

Hillsboro 57, Glencliff 0: Hillsboro held Glencliff to 34 offensive yards Friday night in a 57-0 win. Micheal Hughes was eight of 11 for 131 yards and four touchdowns in the win.

Cascade 15, Jo Byrns 12: Austin Hass threw for 133 yards and a touchdown and Ivan Spencer added 66 rushing yards and score to lead Cascade past Jo Byrns.

Red Boiling Springs 41, Pickett County 21: Red Boiling Springs defeated Pickett County 41-21 Friday night. Michael Turgeon led the way with 169 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Marshall County 42, Stratford 8: Chris Walker led Marshall County with 80 rushing yards and two touchdowns in a win over Stratford.

Lipscomb 35, Sycamore 7: Lipscomb scored five touchdowns in the first half to cruise past Sycamore.

Livingston 35, Christian Knoxville 14: Kaleb Qualls’ amassed four total touchdowns to lead Livingston past Christian Academy of Knoxville.

Page 17, Fairview 13: Michael Magochy threw for 217 yards and touchdown as Page beat Fairview.

Lawrence County 27, Franklin County 12: Lawrence County defeated Franklin County 27-12 Friday night. Jacob Lovelace rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

Donelson Christian 56, Davidson 26: Nathaniel Stewart ran for 178 yards and a touchdown and Shannon Fayne added 83 yards and four scores to lead Donelson Christian Academy past Davidson Academy.
