H.S. FOOTBALL: Scotts Hill, Hardin Co., Riverside, Camden win

The Jackson Sun

REAGAN – After floundering for years at the bottom of district standings with records that were never better than 2-8, the Scotts Hill football program can rest easy in the fact the Lions are assured of not having a losing season.

The Lions defeated Gleason on Friday 54-20 to improve to 5-4.

The game was tied at 14 at halftime.

The Lions will play winless Middleton next week to finish the regular season. If Scotts Hill wins, the Lions’ 6-4 record would almost surely get the Lions into the playoffs for the first time.

Hardin County 28, Bolivar 17: The difference in the battle of the Tigers was the third quarter in which Hardin County outscored Bolivar 12-0.

Cal Gobbell ran for an 18-yard TD and threw to Nick Godwin for another.

Gobbell surpassed the 100-yard mark twice as he finished with 132 passing yards and 175 rushing yards. He’s surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in both categories for the season.

Riverside 42, Collinwood 0: Riverside scored 21 points in the first half then doubled that total in the third quarter.

Shemar Porter had a pair of touchdown runs, and Drake Smith had a couple of touchdown passes to Riley Coleman and Mason Stokes. Lane Wood had a 70-yard fumble recovery and return.

Camden 40, Stewart County 19: The Lions put the game away quickly with 27 points in the first quarter, seven in the second and six in the third.

Deshawn Brown had a pair of touchdown runs as he rushed 12 times for 132 yards. Wes Blow had three touchdown passes and ran for another score.

The Lions secured second place in the district with the win and Waverly’s win over Lewis County. Waverly is the 11-AA champion.
