H.S. FOOTBALL: Sunday Morning Quarterback

JTN

Jackson Christian (2-6) 7, McNairy (3-5) 6

Key to the game: Neither team consistently moved the ball all night. The Bobcats just didn’t convert on special teams when they needed to.

The fallout: The Eagles have some positive momentum before the end of the season. The Bobcats still have a shot at the top two spots in 14-AA.

TCA (8-1) 35, ECS (7-2) 28

Key to the game: The Lions scored the winning touchdown with four seconds left.

The fallout: TCA arguably got its biggest regular season win of the season and maybe the biggest since Blake Butler has been coach.

North Side (8-1) 19, South Gibson (2-7) 7

Key to the game: The Indians scored twice in the fourth quarter to pull away.

The fallout: The Indians are back on the winning track in time for a big game next week for the district runner-up spot.

USJ (6-3) 24, Chester Co. (7-2) 19

Key to the game: The Bruins pulled ahead by multiple possessions to give the Eagles too far to try to come back late.

The fallout: Neither team is affected as far as the playoffs go. They both play for district titles next week.

JCM (3-6) 61, South Side (1-8) 42

Key to the game: The Cougars jumped out to a big lead when they scored five touchdowns before the Hawks got on the scoreboard. That allowed them to stay ahead throughout the game.

The fallout: The Cougars still have a shot at making the 3A playoffs.

Liberty (7-2) 63, Millington (6-3) 10

Key to the game: There wasn’t much Liberty did wrong in the game. Devin Bush had a great night rushing, but the play of his teammates allowed him to have his great night.

The fallout: The Crusaders could be playing the best ball the program has played in its existence.

Bruceton (6-3) 50, Houston Co. (1-8) 0

Key to the game: The Tigers scored nearly every possession while the defense did its job.

The fallout: The Tigers are all but assured of a wild-card berth in the Class 1A playoffs.

Scotts Hill (5-4) 54, Gleason (2-7) 20

Key to the game: The Lions pulled away in the second half after going into halftime tied.

The fallout: The Lions have a good shot at making the playoffs for the first time in their program’s history.

Milan (6-3) 27, Huntingdon (5-4) 0

Key to the game: Milan’s defense is playing as well as any other defensive unit around here.

The fallout: Milan not only is probably in the playoffs but will probably host a playoff game or two. Huntingdon needs to win next week to finish as the district runner-up.

Westview (8-1) 36, McKenzie (6-3) 10

Key to the game: Westview was bigger and more physical than the Rebels.

The fallout: Westview is playing well going into a district title game next week.

Rossville Christian (4-5) 23, Middleton (0-9) 16

Key to the game: The Tigers had a shot at getting their first win but fell short.

The fallout: The Tigers have one more shot at a victory before the season ends.

Riverside (6-3) 42, Collinwood (1-8) 0

Key to the game: Riverside was too strong, too big, too fast and too good for the Trojans.

The fallout: Riverside got that important sixth win for a wild-card berth in the 2A playoffs, but it still has a shot at a top-two finish in the district.

Crockett Co. (9-0) 48, Lexington (4-5) 0

Key to the game: Crockett’s two best weapons were Johnny Jones and the defense.

The fallout: The Cavaliers never set the goal of an unbeaten season, but it’s a goal for them now. Lexington needs to regroup before playing a district game next week.

Hardin Co. (6-3) 28, Bolivar (2-7) 17

Key to the game: Bolivar played well and stayed with Hardin County for a while, but Cal Gobbell and Nick Godwin are a hard combination to stop.

The fallout: Hardin County has a district title game next week.

Greenfield (3-6, 2-4) 27, Gibson Co. (2-7, 1-5) 21

Key to the game: The Pioneers have taken some frustrating losses in recent weeks.

The fallout: Greenfield keeps itself in possible playoff contention, while Gibson County is still searching for its third victory.

Humboldt (5-4, 4-2) 13, Halls (2-7, 0-6) 0

Key to the game: The Vikings didn’t score a lot, but their defense kept the Tigers from scoring any.

The fallout: Humboldt still has a shot at finishing as district runner-up with a win next week.

Union City (9-0, 6-0) 42, Peabody (7-2, 5-1) 16

Key to the game: The Golden Tornadoes’ ground game took over and helped Union City pull away in the second half.

The fallout: Union City is the district champs. Peabody is the runner-up with a win next week.

Camden (7-2, 6-1) 40, Stewart Co. (2-7, 1-6) 19

Key to the game: Wes Blow and Deshawn Brown did their jobs well to lead the offense to scoring 40 points.

The fallout: Camden will finish as second in the district and should get a high seed in the quad in the 3A playoffs.
