Ravenwood girls soccer easily makes semifinals

The Ravenwood girls soccer team got a little revenge Wednesday afternoon at Siegel Soccer Complex.

What was at stake in the Class AAA quarterfinal was much more important, however.

The Lady Raptors defeated Hardin Valley 4-1 to advance to Thursday’s semifinals against Houston, a 6-0 winner over Siegel.

Ravenwood (18-2) and Hardin Valley (18-2-2) met earlier in the season, with the Lady Eagles winning 2-1.

“The fact that we lost against this team earlier in the season is also a really good feeling knowing that we got better and learned from that experience,” said Ravenwood coach Jose Londono.

Ravenwood opened the scoring in the first half with a goal from Grace Parsons in the 13th minute, and Karlie Paschall followed with the first of her two goals in the 37th minute.

“Blare (Gerido) played a fantastic ball through,” said Paschall. “She worked her butt off to get to the ball, and luckily I just happened to make the run and slide it home. I was kind of nervous, the goalie was coming out really fast but I have been working on that since I was little so it worked out.”

Hardin Valley’s Paige Hewitt scored 11 minutes into the second half when she broke ahead of the Ravenwood defenders and was able to deke around goalkeeper Lauren Cunningham to bring the score to 2-1.

Ravenwood turned it up a notch late in the second half when Paschall scored her second goal in the 77th minute.

“We got the ball in line and Grace (Parsons) made a fantastic run forward, and I was kind of wide open, but I just told her to dummy it and I was right there,” said Paschall. “Luckily it came right to my feet and I just finished it.”

Lexi Arnold capped off the scoring a minute later to extend the lead to 4-1.

Cunningham added eight saves for Ravenwood.

“We did some really good things. There’s always things that you can critique,” said Londono. “It’s really hard to say you play a perfect game, I don’t think that happens but I think they played well and I am really proud of them.”

Added Paschall: “Coming in to the state tournament, in the hard bracket that we have, it builds confidence.”

Class A/AA: Olivia Huffman provided the lone goal as Chattanooga Christian blanked Hume-Fogg 1-0. Lucy Crenshaw had 10 saves for Hume-Fogg (16-4), which had just four shots on goal.

Notre Dame also advanced with a 4-0 win over Spring Hill, advancing to the semifinals against Jackson Christian. Lexi Habberley had 15 saves for Spring Hill.
