Clay Beathard threw for three first half touchdowns to three different receivers and the Battle Ground Academy defense held St. George’s scoreless for 45 minutes. The Wildcats earned a spot in the TSSAA Division II-A BlueCross Bowl with 28-7 spanking of the Gryphons in Memphis Friday night.

The ‘Cats jumped to a 21-0 lead at the half as Beathard found Ronald Cleveland (17 yards), Rieves Berry (23 yards) and Marcus Cawthorne (29 yards) to stretch a lead that was never challenged.

Cleveland tacked on a 43-yard scamper in the fourth to close the BGA scoring before St. George’s got on the board with less than three minutes to play.

Beathard finished the night 14-23-1 for 231 yards and the three touchdowns to go with 64 yards on the ground.

Zack Hardiman (5 solo tackles, 6 assists) and Harris Jones (4 solo, 8 assists) led the BGA defense.

The win propels BGA into the state championship game, the BlueCross Bowl on Dec. 4 at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville.

The Wildcats will meet Knoxville Webb, a team that defeated BGA 34-28 in a lightning delayed marathon in Franklin. Webb defeated Evangelical Christian School 21-7 in the other semifinal.
