H.S. FOOTBALL: Adamsville goes on the road for practice

ADAMSVILLE – The football team at Adamsville will travel on Friday to a place the program hasn’t been very often.

In fact, the last time Adamsville and Peabody played, the current seniors were in second grade.

“That’ll be good to play somebody different,” said senior Chris Irons. “Get to line up against a different formation and different players will add a little excitement to the week of practice.”

A group of senior players from Adamsville said there are positives and negatives to playing someone new.

“The bad thing is we’re not used to them and what they do,” said receiver Ross Burcham. “But they’re not familiar with us either, so it probably evens out for both of us.”

One thing that could help Adamsville adapt to new surroundings on Friday is the team got to do that for practice on Monday.

Because of all the rain the area around Adamsville has received in recent weeks, all fields at Adamsville High – game field, practice field and baseball outfield where they practiced one day last week – were all too wet to get work done on.

So the Cardinals loaded up and went to Corinth, Miss., to get a practice in.

“We lost a day of practice last week because it was too cold to do much outside,” said Cardinals head coach Brandon Gray. “We play a team this week that’s too good to miss a day of work for.”

Corinth High School recently refurbished their football stadium and installed a new artificial turf field. That’s why the Cardinals flew south for dry ground. Gray said it helped.

“We had a good day of practice,” Gray said. “Which we had to because there wasn’t a lot of time to get work in before the sun went down.

“Hopefully it helped us get better to play Peabody this week. We appreciate Corinth for helping us out.”
