BRADFORD – The Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets used a fast start and a strong defensive effort to get a 38-34 victory over the Bradford Lady Red Devils Tuesday night.

Greenfield opened the game by jumping out to a 6-0 lead, and they never looked back as the Lady Yellowjackets held the lead for the entire game.

Greenfield coach Willie Trevathan credited the early lead as one of the keys to the Lady Yellowjacket victory.

“I thought it was important that we got off to a good start and get a little bit of a lead early because Bradford definitely stormed back and made some big plays to get themselves back into the game,” Trevathan said.

Greenfield was led in scoring by Brittany Peoples who had 13 and Shaynece Clemons with 11 points.

“I thought offensively we had some people make some big plays for us,” Trevathan said. “Brittany Peoples made some big plays driving to the basket, as did Shaynece Clemons.”

Bradford was led by forward Morgan Martin with 13 points.

Greenfield started the game on a 6-0 run after Peoples and Clemons combined for three quick buckets.

The Lady Yellowjackets led 12-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Greenfield held its largest lead of the game at 21-10 midway through the second quarter, but Bradford stormed back on an Aaliyah Albea three pointer and four points from Martin to cut the deficit to 21-17.

The teams then traded free throws to make the halftime score 24-19.

Bradford began to have some success in cutting into the Greenfield lead in the third quarter, as Anna Taylor hit a 3-pointer to bring Bradford within one, 33-32 at the end of the third quarter.

Both teams settled into their defenses and ran a lot of time off the clock offensively in the fourth quarter as they combined for a total of seven points.

With Greenfield clinging to a 37-34 lead with just under a minute left, Clemons tipped a Bradford pass and then stole the ball to ensure the victory for the Lady Yellowjackets.

Greenfield made one of the two ensuing free throws to get the final score of 38-34.
