Girls hoops roundup: MTCS improves to 4-0

MTCS improved to 4-0 with a 61-52 win over Huntland to open District 9-A play on Tuesday night.

Abby Buckner led the Lady Cougars with 22 points. Teammates Jordan Faulkner and Ashlynd Wilkerson had 11 points apiece. And Erin Mullins scored eight.

Huntland's Ali Golden led all scorers with 27.

Blackman 84, William Blount 54: Blackman, the MaxPreps preseason No. 1 team in the country, had no trouble with William Blount. The Lady Blaze led 27-9 after one quarter to coast to the win.

MTSU signee Alex Johnson had 27 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Blaze. Connecticut commitment Crystal Dangerfield tallied 20 points and 14 assists. And Jazz Bond had 10 points.

Oakland 67, Independence 32: Shelby Gibson scored 16 points to pace the Lady Patriots. Belmont signee Paris Lawson and Ansley Eubank each had 13. And Aaliyah Patterson scored 12.
