Siegel girls collect first 7-AAA win

MURFREESBORO – Siegel's limited opportunities were more than enough to get past what seemed like endless chances for visiting La Vergne.

The Lady Stars scored a 44-33 win in Friday's District 7-AAA game against the Lady Wolverines thanks to an efficient second half. Siegel hit eight of 15 shots from the field in the final 16 minutes to help turn a 22-18 lead at the break into the 11-point margin of victory.

La Vergne (3-7, 0-1) got plenty of looks at the rim the entire game, and particularly in the second half. The Lady Wolverines attempted 34 shots in the final two quarters.

"We're playing a lot of zone this year and we're just not boxing out well out of it," Siegel coach Alan Bush said. "They were getting shots from the first pass a lot of times, which was kind of frustrating. We're not anticipating very well, not reacting very well, we're definitely not boxing out well and that's got to get better."

Luckily for the Lady Stars (2-7, 1-1), only five of La Vergne's 34 second-half shots fell.

"We moved the ball around a lot and didn't give up, but some of our shots just weren't falling," Lady Wolverine Brianna Chapman said. "Sometimes we rush, sometimes we take our time. We just throw them up there trying to catch back up and we're impatient with our passes and just throwing shots up that aren't there."

A 9-of-12 effort from the free-throw line kept the Lady Wolverines in the game entering the third quarter. However, that, too, went away in the second half. They hit just two of eight shots afterward.

Rachel Tracy led Siegel with 13 points, 10 of them coming in the first half. Abrealla Wilson had her 12 in a 17-minute span between the second and fourth quarters. Patricia Brown added 11.

"There were a lot of negative things, but we did enough things to win," Bush said. "We know we've got to improve. We've gotten better throughout the year. We've just got to keep plugging away."

Seana Morris had 13 for La Vergne, while Chapman added 10.
