Boys roundup: Riverdale runner-up at Rhea Co. tournament

Riverdale couldn't overcome a distinct size advantage Saturday night against Hamilton Heights in the championship game of the Rhea County Christmas Tournament.

Hamilton Heights of Chattanooga defeated Riverdale 55-43.

Hamilton Heights, who had seven players 6-foot-5 or taller, led 16-4 after the first quarter. But Riverdale used an 11-2 run to cut it to 18-15 at halftime.

Brad Woodson scored 10 of his 18 points in the third quarter to give the Warriors a brief three-point lead. But Hamilton Height's size was too much.

Ezekiel Balogun led Hamilton Heights with 13 points. Abdul Ado added nine.

Gentry Bonds had 11 points for the Warriors

Riverdale 58, Rhea Co. 50: Three Riverdale players scored in double figures in the semifinals to put the Warriors in the finals.

Brad Woodson led Riverdale with 17 points. Brandon Somerville added 15 and Gentry Bonds had 12 for Riverdale.

Cannon Co. 72, Rhea Co. 52: Josh Ruehlen led Cannon County (11-4) with 29 points. Teammate Jacob Nave added 17 points in the third-place game of the Rhea County tournament.

Cannon County plays in Panama City, Florida from Dec. 26-Jan. 1.

Red Raider Invitational

Oakland 66, Warren Co. 35: Oakland placed four players in double figures in the rout.

Ricky Dunnaway led Oakland with 15 points. Jaleen Lyons had 12 points. Kyle Oliver had 11 points in his first game of the season after finishing football. And Jarrell Reeves had 10.

Mt. Juliet Chick-fil-A Classic

Stewarts Creek 50, Mt. Juliet 42: Jy'lan Washington scored a game-high 18 points to pace the Red Hawks to the win. Jalen Fearn and Paul Kaelin added seven points apiece.

Tray Pruitt led Mt. Juliet with 10 points.

La Vergne 67, Cane Ridge 46: Marquis Davis scored a team-high 18 points in the win. Javel Gillespie added 15 points with three 3-pointers.

Quinton Armstrong added 10.

Central Magnet Christmas Classic

Smyrna 71, Central Magnet 30:Patrick Blair hit three 3-pointers and scored 10 points to lead Central Magnet (2-15). Caleb Bartolotto added six points.
