MBA QB Cole Euverard commits to Navy

Montgomery Bell Academy senior Cole Euverard committed to play football at the United States Naval Academy on Saturday, joining a Midshipmen recruiting class that’s already crowded with Midstate players.

Euverard, the Division II Class AA Mr. Football Back winner, joins Brentwood Academy lineman Jackson Pittman, Friendship Christian lineman Andrew Wood, Blackman wide receiver Quen Hardy and Lipscomb Academy tight end Jackson Mitchell as members of Navy’s 2015 class.

“I just thought it was a great choice, not only for now but also for the future,” Euverard said. “They give you great skills there and great career paths afterwards. Also you get to serve your country, and I think there’s something special about that.”

Euverard, a first-team All-Midstate selection for the Big Red, tallied 2,654 yards from scrimmage and 36 total touchdowns in 2014, leading MBA to an 11-2 record and the school’s first state title since 2007.

“He’s liked Navy for a long time,” said Marty Euverard, MBA coach and Cole’s father. “We went out there this summer and went to their camp. He loves everything about Annapolis: the education, the endless possibilities of career paths and of course being able to play football for the Naval Academy. He’s all in man.”

The 5-11, 188-pound Cole Euverard was recruited by Navy to play quarterback, but the dual-threat signal caller said that he’d to open to playing other positions if necessary.

“The coaches have been up front with me and told me they’re recruiting me as a quarterback,” Cole Euverard said. “I’m hoping to play quarterback, but I’ll be willing to play anything just to play.”

Goodpasture product Keenan Reynolds, a former Middle Tennessee prep star, is currently quarterbacking the Midshipmen. Reynolds will be entering his final season of eligibility this fall.

Reynolds, a two-time All-Midstate selection at Goodpasture, has racked up nearly 5,000 yards from scrimmage and 87 total touchdowns in three seasons at Navy.
