A week after a disappointing result against Signal Mountain, the Chattanooga Christian boys’ soccer team had the opportunity to correct some of its mistakes in another District 7-A/AA match against Notre Dame on Friday.


The Chargers struggled to finish their scoring chances last week, but that wasn’t the case on Friday, when CCS stormed to a 5-0 victory over the rival Irish.


“We played a game last week without near the quality of play in a number of respects -- execution, effort, ideas, decisions,” Chargers coach David Stanton said of his team’s 1-1 tie with Signal Mountain. “But we came out here tonight and did twice as good of a job, and got twice as much result. Last week we came out and took 21 shots and scored one goal; this time we took 14 shots and scored five goals.”


Drew Bolano got the scoring started for CCS five minutes into Friday’s match on an assist from Porter Black. In the 26th minute, John Mark Duble headed in Bolano’s corner kick, and the Chargers took the 2-0 lead into the break.


“We just played hard,” Stanton said. “Tonight I think we really had the action to support what we wanted to try to do. After a while, they got comfortable with the game. After we went through our rotation two or three times, you started to see the tide shifting a little bit.”


Seven minutes into the second period, David Drinnon scored on a restart, and then in the 64th minute, Bolano scored again off an assist from Will Patten. Black finished off the scoring when he scored on another restart in the 70th minute.


Keeper Cameron Close recorded the shutout with help from strong play in the back by Paul Fortmiller and Barrot Bickley.


“We have a great group of guys this year,” Stanton said. “Every once in a while, you get a little something extra, and that’s certainly what we have here.”
