Roundup: Riverdale finishes 17-1 in 7-AAA

Riverdale completed a one-loss season in District 7-AAA with a 7-3 win over Stewarts Creek on Thursday at Jones Field.

Riverdale (22-9, 17-1 in 7-AAA) had a two-out, four-run rally in the bottom of the sixth to break open a 3-3 game.

Jonah Hartline had a two-out single and stole second and then third as MTSU signee Drew Huff walked.

Haddon Adams then singled in Hartline.

Tre Bailliez came in from shortstop in relief of starter Luke Alexander. An errant pick-off attempt at first scored Huff, and then Charlie Fultz hit a two-run home run – his sixth of the season – to end the scoring.

Huff (4-1) pitched the final two innings to get the win and Alexander took the loss.

Brandon Dial and Austin Steel had two hits for the Red Hawks (8-16, 6-12).

Fultz went 2-for-3 with the homer and an RBI double. Dylan King and Jonah Hartline also had 2 hits.

Siegel 6, Smyrna 3: Siegel and Smyrna traded the lead five times before the Stars pulled out the win in the eighth inning.

The win secures second place for the Stars. Smyrna will be third.

Colton Gipson scored on a bases loaded walk to break a 3-3 tie for Siegel (18-9, 11-7).

Kyle Clary got the win in relief.

MTSU signee Carson Lester had a pair of doubles. MTSU signee Blake Benefield was 2-for-3 with a double.

Camron Roberts had two hits for Smyrna (15-10, 10-8). Camron Harper took the loss.

BOYS SOCCER

La Vergne 3, Blackman 1: La Vergne broke a 1-1 tie at halftime with two goals for the District 7-AAA win.

Kevin Cardona, Oscar Zamora and Chyrstian Garcia all scored for the Wolverines.

SOFTBALL

Oakland 16, Blackman 1: Pitcher Lacie Rinus went 4-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the Lady Patriots. The MTSU commitment gave up just three hits over five innings.

Michelle Williams went 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles while driving in three runs. Holly Shirey went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs. Gracie Kirby was 2-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs.

MTSU signee Kirstyn Cuccia was 1-for-1 with a run scored to lead Blackman.

Caylin Braswell took the loss.

Boys

Oakland 5, Riverdale 4: Oakland's Landry Coleman defeated Artem Mayorov 8-1 at No. 2 singles. Teammate Paul Myers defeated Jake Morgan 8-6 at No. 3 singles. Brennan Shea won 8-3 over Taylor Poland at No. 4 singles.

Riverdale's Drake Parker defeated Mitch Burnham 8-1 at No. 1 singles. Colton Pursell defeated Bryan Jennings 8-5 at No. 5 singles. Tyler Vongpanya defeated John Myers 8-5 at No. 6 singles.

Parker/Mayorov defeated Burnham/Coleman 8-6 for Riverdale at No. 1 doubles.

Paul Myers/Shea defeated Morgan/Pursell 8-4 at No. 2 doubles for Oakland. Jennings/John Myers won 8-6 over Poland/Vongpanya at No. 3 doubles.

Oakland (6-2, 5-1 in 7-AAA) will be the No. 2 seed in next week's District 7-AAA tournament.

Macon Co. 5, Central Magnet 2: Central Magnet (10-1) suffered its first loss of the season to Macon County.

Greyson Gore defeated Jacob Harbin 8-2 at No. 2 singles. Zane Broden won 8-3 over Grant Gannon at No. 5 singles.

Central's Chase Owens lost 8-2 at No. 1 singles to John Griffith. Chetan Gowda lost 9-7 to Austin Smith at No. 3 singles. And Rehse Sparks lost 8-0 at No. 4 singles.

Gore/Reed Gore lost 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. Gowda/Owens lost 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Girls

Central Magnet 8, Macon Co. 1: Central Magnet improved to 10-4 for the season.

Laurel Tipps defeated Rosselle Dorrero 9-7 at No. 1 singles. Sally Smith defeated Mahaley Tuck 8-3 at No. 2 singles.

Megan Scott defeated Brooklyn Driver 8-6 at No. 3 singles. Mamie Sevier defeated Casey Martin 8-3 at No. 5 singles.

Ellis Bouldin/Tipps won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Scott/Smith won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Central's Emily Oppmann lost 8-5 to Kaylee Wheeler at No. 4 singles.

Sam Williams and Mary Grace Offutt won 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.

Oakland 9, Riverdale 0: Oakland's Kylie Humphrey won 8-0 at No. 1 singles over Hana Egawa. Haley Burnett won 8-0 at No. 2 singles over Alexis Lyles. Kate Thepsouvan won 8-1 over Abigail Puckett at No. 3 singles. Emma Rhea Tenpenny won 8-4 over Rachel Lumpkin at No. 4 singles. Anzlee Adams won 8-0 at No. 5 singles. And Chloe Bacon won 8-1 at No. 6 singles.

Humphries/Burnett defeated Egawa Puckett 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. Thepsouvan/Tenpenny won 8-1 over Lyles/Rinaudo at No. 2 doubles. Adams/Bacon won 8-0 over Lumpkin/Mallen at No. 3 doubles.

Oakland (6-1, 4-0) is the No. 1 seed in next week's 7-AAA tournament at Old Fort.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Baseball

Brentwood Academy, 6 Stewarts Creek 2: Camden Madding took the loss for Creek (14-4, 8-2). Mac Curtis had two hits and hit his sixth homer of the season.

Madding, John Powers, and Andrew Nau each added a hit to the cause.

Stewarts Creek clinched its regular-season championship with Siegel's loss to Christiana. It is the Falcons' first regular-season title since 2008. They will be the No. 1 seed in the county tournament next week.
