Greg Tipps, a girls prep basketball coach in Crossville this past season, has been named the new Dickson County High School Lady Cougars coach, according to Dickson County Schools Director Dr. Danny Weeks.

Weeks sent an email Saturday morning confirming the hiring of Tipps based on the recommendation of Joey Holley, who will be the new DCHS principal starting next school year.

"We are proud to confirm this recommendation and look forward to Mr. Tipps' coaching the Lady Cougars!" stated Weeks in the email.

Tipps leaves Stone Memorial High School in Crossville where the girls team finished the season 3-23 overall and 0-10 in District 6-AAA.

Tipps, who graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and health, played high school basketball for Moore County High School where his team appeared in three state tournaments.

After college, Tipps returned to Moore County in southern Middle Tennessee and worked as an assistant on a state title boys basketball team.

Tipps was then hired as head girls basketball coach for Coffee County where he coached the Gatorade State Player of the Year, Amber Benjamin.

Tipps returned to his hometown of Moore County and was the head coach of the girls program, winning two district championships and making a sub-state appearance in 2006.

Prior to his one year at Stone Memorial, Tipps was head coach of the girls basketball program at Loretto High School for seven years. During that time, Loretto made the state tournament three of four seasons and advanced to two final four appearances.

Tipps has a wife, Paige and son, Brendon.
