Brentwood Academy’s Bryce Mathews became the third BA lineman to commit to an SEC school when he chose to play football at Ole Miss Friday.

Following in the footsteps of Ryan Johnson and Brandon Adams, rising Brentwood Academy senior Bryce Mathews became the third BA lineman headed for the SEC when he committed to Ole Miss on Friday.

“He’s very comfortable there and I think he appreciates the direction Coach (Hugh) Freeze is going with the program,” Brentwood Academy football coach Cody White said. “He likes the offensive line coach he got pretty close with and I think he just had a good feel for the school.”

While Mathews will play for the Rebels, Adams committed to Vanderbilt and Johnson chose Tennessee. The three linemen were coached by Bryce’s dad, Jason, the Brentwood Academy offensive line coach who played in the NFL for the Colts and Titans.

“It says a lot about Coach Mathews and the job he does with our kids’ development,” White said. “And it says a lot about the kids physically getting themselves ready to play at that level.”

With the college decision out of the way, the three big men can focus on helping take the Eagles back to the playoffs. Brentwood Academy finished 8-3 last season, making it to the Division II-AA quarterfinals before falling to Memphis University School, 30-28.
