Oakland’s JaCoby Stevens was selected as the No. 24 overall recruit in the nation for the class of 2017.
ESPN released its Junior 300 Monday, highlighting the top recruits in the nation from the class of 2017.
Six Midstate athletes made the list with Oakland’s JaCoby Stevens projected to garner the most national interest at No. 24 overall. The 6-foot-2, 199-pound recruit finished with 50 tackles, three interceptions and a pair of recovered fumbles in 2014 as a defensive back, while reeling in 19 catches for 279 yards as a wide receiver. Louisiana State and Tennessee are among the offers that he has shown the most interest in.
La Vergne was the only school from the area to have two players make the list. Athlete Maleik Gray was tabbed the No. 48 overall recruit while fellow teammate and Wolverine wide receiver Princeton Fant was ranked No. 235.
Gray has received offers from 21 schools, according to 247sports.com, but Florida State and Tennessee are considered his front-runners.
UT’s Butch Jones banks on local recruiting
Montgomery Bell Academy running back Ty Chandler made the list at No. 93. Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt are among his offers.
Two Midstate players rounded out the top 300 with Beech Linebacker Jacob Phillips being ranked No. 294 and Hillsboro defensive tackle Ben Hutch No. 299.
