Nashville Christian School junior Mickey Martin (3) was killed in a car crash Thursday afternoon.

A Nashville Christian School football player was killed in a car crash while driving home from practice Thursday afternoon, Nashville Christian football coach Jeff Brothers said.

Mickey Martin and two Eagle teammates were traveling home on Forest Crossing near Joelton in Cheatham County when Martin lost control of the vehicle, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The crash report said the vehicle traveled slightly off the right side of the road on a left-hand curve, and then came back across both lanes and traveled off the left shoulder into trees, one of which crashed into the driver’s side door.

The passengers were senior Mareio McGraw and sophomore Brant Lawless, according to the THP report.

Both were hospitalized, but Brothers said that both are “recovering and expected to be released soon.”

“We actually wrapped up around lunch time, and he and a couple of teammates were headed to (Martin’s) house,” Brothers said. “I got the call about the wreck around 3:15, and about 30 minutes later received word that he had passed away.”

“I’m still in shock — a lot of people are — and I’m still processing at this point what really just happened and what it looks like going forward,” Brothers said. “I think the faith that we have is what we’re leaning on. I think our school and our team will pull together and honor Mickey as we go forward.”

Martin, a junior, was a standout wide receiver, defensive back and kick returner for the Eagles, scoring seven total touchdowns during last year’s 12-1 campaign.
