Jacob Rimmer’s dream of playing college football took a major step toward coming true Saturday.

The junior offensive lineman at Milan High School was officially offered a scholarship by Vanderbilt University.

“I’m so blessed to have this opportunity,” Rimmer said.

Rimmer is a 6-feet-7, 260-pound left tackle for the Bulldogs who started as a sophomore last year. He’s gone to a few camps during the offseason and has gotten positive reviews from various coaches and scouts for his size, speed and footwork. He is ranked as a 3-star lineman by 247sports.com

“I’ve had a few coaches tell me my footwork is really good after they see me doing ladder drills,” Rimmer said.

The Bulldog lineman said Vanderbilt first contacted him earlier in the week, and Commodores offensive line coach Keven Lightner called him Saturday afternoon.

“He told me if I wanted to play for Vanderbilt they’d have a spot for me,” Rimmer said.

Rimmer has a 3.8 grade-point average and should academically qualify to play for the Southeastern Conference team based in Nashville.

Rimmer said he will visit Vanderbilt’s campus Aug. 8, and he expects to learn more about the offer and the possibilities associated with playing for Vanderbilt include.

Milan head coach Jeff Morris said Rimmer is a quality lineman who he expects a lot from this season.

“He was a starter last year and did a good job, and he knows he needs to keep working to continue to get better,” Morris said.

Rimmer has two more seasons to play for Milan and has about 18 months before he’ll officially sign with a college.

“We had a scrimmage [Friday night at Henry County] and looked pretty good,” Rimmer said. “We’re ready to get started. I know I am.”
