Scoring on their first drive, the Montgomery Central Indians set a dominant tone and never let go of as they shut out Region 6-4A opponent Creek Wood 23-0 at home Friday.

Senior quarterback Peyton Delvandahl led Montgomery Central (3-0) on offense, scoring all three of the team’s touchdowns. Quinton Poole paced Creek Wood (1-2), cranking out 52 yards off 10 carries all in the fourth.

“The first thing is we wanted to keep Creek Wood’s offense off the field. They’re an explosive offense,” Montgomery Central head coach Jeff Tomlinson said after the game. “The best defense is to have our offense on the field. That’s what this offense is made for anyway is to just take it down the field and chew up a whole quarter and score a touchdown.”

The Indians did just that off their first drive, capped by a 6-yard TD run by Delvandahl. The Indian’s ability to control the clock was evident by the 13 first downs the team had in the game, while limiting Creek Wood to nine.

Tennessee high school football scores: Week 3

An interception by Dequimonthy Northington in the second quarter set a a 2-yard run scoring drive for Delvandahl.  Mitchell Hosea would add a 25-yard field goal in the fourth along with two PAT while Delvandahl polished off the scoring for the home team on a 1-yard touchdown run with three minutes left in the game.

Dillon Cooley put a period on the game with an interception of a CW pass with less than 50 seconds in regulation.

“I would say the more disciplined team won my hats off them,” Creek Wood head coach Justin Palmer said. “We got to figure out a way to come out with more energy and handle that initial shock of somebody hitting us. We just have such a lack of depth right now.”
