It was another tough region battle for Dickson County Friday night as the Cougars lost their homecoming game to 7-5A opponent Northeast, 35-7.

Nick Viette led the Eagles of Northeast (3-4/1-3 7-5A) on offense with a pair of rushing touchdowns while Tez Coleman scored on a 51-yard run for Dickson County (2-5/0-4 7-5A) in the fourth.

“We did what we needed to do and finally played a game where we executed on offense,” Northeast head coach Terry Arrington said after the game. “Defense we’ve been playing pretty well. We’ve just been putting our defense in such a bad position the first three or four weeks…better job tonight and that’s what happens when everybody works together and does their job.”

The Eagles did struggle with penalties though, 140 yards worth, but that didn’t stop the team from marching down the field. Quarterback Benji Burchwell connected with Sebastian Bacino near the end of the first quarter on a 6-yard scoring pass play to put Northeast on the scoreboard. Dickson County’s Trey Wiedman blocked the extra point kick, but the Eagles made up for it in the second quarter.

Quinton Cross scored for Northeast on a 6-yard run after a solid drive. Gus Antoine pulled in the pass from Burchwell for the 2-point conversion and the visiting team was up 14-0. The Eagles looked to add a third touchdown before the half but Wiedman again sailed in for Dickson County to knock down another pass in the end zone.

Northeast wasn’t done though and a 1-yard touchdown run by Viette in the third followed by a 12-yard scoring run in the fourth gave the Eagles a comfortable 28-7 lead. Derecus Washington would shut the door for Northeast late in the fourth, returning an interception 73-yards for another touchdown.
