TIPTONVILLE — One way to get over a big loss is to follow that up with a big win.

The Trenton Peabody Golden Tide did exactly that as it dominated the Lake County Falcons in Tiptonville on Friday night by the score of 53-16.

“We had a true test of character this week for our team,” Peabody head coach Shane Jacobs said.

“We were coming off of a big loss to Dresden last week, which might've been the lowest moment for this program since I've been here. These guys had some choices to make coming into this week whether they wanted to fight back and reach for our pre-season goals or if we wanted to just give up.

“These guys responded very well tonight and showed that we are still capable of reaching the goals we had set.”

The Golden Tide (6-2, 4-2) wasted very little time getting its first touchdown of the game as Peabody's defensive end, Zay Norman, picked off a pass and returned it 30 yards for the touchdown less than a minute into the game.

The Peabody offense was also clicking in the first half as Brandon Johnson had 8- 9- 19- and 21-yard touchdown runs in the first half on his way to an unofficial 137 yards rushing in the half.

Kendrick Malone, who was back at quarterback this week for the Tide, connected with Keyvon Goodwin on a 42-yard touchdown pass in the first half in route to a 47-0 lead at the half.

Friday Night Final Scores

Malone also returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a touchdown, which winded up being the only points for the Tide in the second half.

“From here, our guys just need to focus on ourselves and keep getting better. We came out here and did what we needed to do tonight.”

The Golden Tide host the South Fulton Red Devils in a Region 7-1A game next week.

“This is a close group of guys on this team,” Jacobs said. “These guys have played with each other all through middle school and throughout high school. As long as we continue to focus on ourselves, I believe that we can achieve everything that we talked about in the pre-season.”

“I believe that these guys can and will do that.”
