ROUNDUP: Lexington wins again

The Jackson Sun

LEXINGTON — The big red Tigers of Lexington stayed on their pace to make the playoffs in Region 7-4A with a big win over Obion County, 43-20.

The Tigers have two losses in the league to two teams competing for the region championship, but there’s enough games between the top teams in the league that there’s plenty of opportunity to move up the standings.

Lexington needs to keep winning to do that, and this victory was a big part of Bryant Hollingsworth’s team’s staying in that hunt.

Adamsville 63, Gibson Co. 0: The Cardinals are the Region 6-2A champions because of their 4-0 record in league play and their tie-breaking wins over McKenzie and Jackson Christian. If Adamsville were to lose its region finale game against Halls next week, the Eagles and Rebels could still do no better than second place because of their losses to the Cardinals.

Adamsville scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters and allowed Gibson County to gain a total of 133 yards to the Cardinals’ 494.

Dylan Whirley and Laderrick Means appeared to try to compete for more touchdowns in the first half for Adamsville.

Whirley ran 16 yards for one touchdown before Means caught a 39-yard pass from Dylan Lott and then ran 10 yards for another.

Whirley ran for another score in the second quarter, but Means returned an interception for his third score of the night.

Tylon Walker then got into the scoring act with a couple of long runs just before and just after halftime for scores.

Chase Boudreaux then had a pair of scores himself in the second half.

Gibson County goes to Trinity Christian Academy next week.

Carver 50, Middleton 6: The Tigers played the team leading their region so far and couldn’t stay with them on the scoreboard. Middleton is still seeking its first region victory since 2001.

Huntingdon 55, McEwen 0: Once again, the Mustangs left no room for doubt as they routed another opponent.

The Mustangs have scored more than 50 points the past two weeks against region opponents going into their probably region championship game at Wayne County next week.

Clarksville Aca. 21, Bruceton 6: Bruceton’s playoff hopes took a big hit with this loss. There are now two teams with two losses in league play who are tied for fourth. Bruceton is one, and Houston County is the other. They meet in two weeks in Bruceton after the Tigers travel to Collinwood next week.

Union City 54, West Carroll 0: The War Eagles couldn’t hang with the defending state champions whose overall win streak is now at 35 games. West Carroll was going for its second win in a row.
