Camden earns a big win

The Jackson Sun

CAMDEN — Head football coach at Camden High, William Blow, has had to deal with juggling players in practice regarding injuries as some players have had to sit various practices out because they were hurt in the last two weeks, with last week being the Lions’ bye week.

That trend continued into Camden’s game against Cheatham County Friday night as key players sat out the majority of the second half after various injuries.

Fortunately for the Lions, they’d gone up on Cheatham County by 20 points and rode that lead to a 34-16 victory.

“Yeah we had a couple players like Deshawn Brown and Dalton Whitfield who only played a couple of snaps in the second half,” Blow said. “And those were plays when we needed somebody to make a big play.”

The Lions were down to their fifth and sixth linebackers in the rotation as the top four, which included Brown and Whitfield, were all out.

“Luckily, the guys we put in those spots made plays when we needed them to,” Blow said.

Friday Night Final Scores

Brown ran for all three of Camden’s touchdowns in the first half.

Camden scored a touchdown in each of the second-half quarters, and Ryan Massey caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from Hayden Abernathy for the third quarter score. Keyon Tharpe ran seven yards for the fourth quarter score.

Because of the weather, Camden reverted back to the run-heavy style of play the Lions are more known for. Abernathy had two passing attempts, but they were both complete for 81 yards.

The win keeps Camden undefeated in Region 6-3A, and the Lions are tied with Fairview after Fairview beat Sycamore. Camden visits Sycamore and Fairview the next two weeks.
